About RALPH MILEWSKI

About me

I photograph what I encounter. Not what I’m looking for.
I observe, repeat, discard. I don’t smooth things out.

My work emerges in motion – from movement, from stillness.
There is no plan. But there is direction.

I’m interested in people in space. Traces. Transitions.
I work with available light and reduce my tools as far as possible.
What remains when everything unnecessary is removed – that’s what matters.

I don’t believe in educational messages.
An image doesn’t have to explain. It should provoke something.
If it does, that’s enough.

The circumstances under which my images are created are inseparable from the work itself.
They shape the process – and the way the photographs are seen.

I believe in the strength of the image.
Not in the intention behind it.
And I don’t believe in the need to please.

„It’s when you unexpectedly read a beautiful, ironic and slightly sad text that makes you pause after every sentence and reflect. When amazing photographs appear alongside it, self-sufficient, creating new meanings… Then you realise that you have unexpectedly met your kindred spirit… Thank you, Ralph!“ Roman Pyatkovka, Photographer, Kharkiv School of Photography (June 2025)
